Karen Christie

Teachers - Elementary

Hello! I am Karen Christie and I am about to begin my third year of living in Yellowknife. I grew up in London, England, and moved to New Brunswick to study in 1994. I then met my future husband and have lived in Canada ever since! I have loved living and teaching in many different places in Canada - in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, British Columbia, and now, the beautiful north. I have been blessed to have worked at Weledeh for the past two years as a substitute teacher, working in all the classes from JK to grade 7. I am thrilled this year to be taking the position as a grade 2 teacher and can’t wait to see the students as they return to school. When I am not teaching, I love to be outdoors, being active, and I also love to take photos of the beauty all around us in creation.

Hi there! I have been working with Yellowknife Catholic Schools since 2004 and am back to being a Weledeh Wolf again, now for my 3rd year in a row. I grew up in Ontario and still love my summers back there, despite curly hair & humidity. ;) I absolutely adore teaching and cannot wait for our 2019-2020 year in grade 4! This year, as a nature practitioner in training, I begin a new task of facilitating Weledeh's new nature program - official name is in the brainstorming stages. I am looking forward to transforming the natural spaces of our spectacular NWT into an extension of our classrooms. Our nature program combines student wellness and academic achievement while helping them learn and practice all those 21st-century skills that will help them become advocates for themselves, others, and our environment. I love sharing about this program and am always looking for community members to share their knowledge with us, so please feel free to contact me with any questions! Mahsi Cho!
